When Janice was in high school, she had established a reputation as an individual who studied much of the time and who rarely, if ever, whooped it up by drinking with her peers. She seemed driven to “stand out” academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial position.

After much deliberation, in due course she made up her mind that she wanted to be a trial lawyer. In order to achieve this goal, however, she would first have to get four years of undergraduate education.

After Janice completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a famous program in sociology. Her rationale underlying this decision was that this area of study would be a good springboard for law school and wouldn’t be similar to the preponderance of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate minor or major.

After graduating with a 3.7 GPA at the undergraduate level, she applied to and was accepted at an outstanding law school at one of the Pacific Ten universities.

She was pleased with her legal studies but every once in a while she was besieged with all the work that had to be undertaken at law school. Reminiscent to the way she handled herself in her high school and undergraduate days, nevertheless, she made buddies easily but barely got involved in social events until the semester had been concluded.

After Feeling Proud of the Fact That She Had Done a Super Job on Her Finals, Janice Wanted to Let Her Hair Down and Do Something Enjoyable

Janice was the kind of person who worked relentlessly to reach her objective and then would take a rest when she could. As it turns out, nevertheless, most of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks were not associated with drinking. Evidently, Janice was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were done and appreciating the fact that she had done very well on her finals, however, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides studying for a change.

So Janice and a few of her pals went to a local club where they had a few drinks. As the hours flew by, Janice continued to drink without having any concerns about tests the next day. As a matter of fact, Janice stated to her pals how overjoyed she was to whoop it up and drink with her classmates.

As the evening moved forward, Janice and her friends continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a fabulous time that she didn’t want the night to come to an end. It was almost like she was making up for lost time and making an attempt to compress a year’s worth of excitement into a single evening. Such a “game plan,” however, does not often work. In actual fact, when Janice went to the restroom and threw up, her pals started to feel apprehensive about her health.

About thirty minutes later when Janice started to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, in spite of this, her buddies without delay knew that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Janice was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Once Janice was in the hospital, the lead healthcare practitioner verified what her pals had speculated, namely, that Janice consumed substantially more alcohol than her body could process and, as a consequence, she suffered from an alcohol overdose.

After the emergency room treatment team pumped her stomach until no gastric contents were identifiable, Janice was wheeled to the recovery room. After staying around four hours in recovery, Janice was then transferred to one of the regular hospital rooms. Fortunately, the most dangerous part of her hospitalization had passed and all of her vital signs were back to normal.

In response to Janice’s situation, her pals caringly phoned her Mom and Dad. As a consequence, early the next day, her Mother and Father and her best buddies went to the hospital to visit Janice and look into her medical progress.

Janice Dodges a Bullet, is Thankful to be Alive, and Promises to Never Again Drink in an Abusive and Excessive Manner

Janice was attentive to the fact that she had dodged a bullet and, consequently, was grateful to be alive. Her Mother and Father knew how hard she studied at college and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nevertheless, they also realized that Janice needed to stay away from excessive drinking.

As a result, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking occasion arises, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Janice was in agreement with this and gave her word to her Mother and Father and to her friends that she would never again drink in an excessive manner. In Janice’s own words, “I never thought that I would become one of the alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics in the local university newspaper. I now grasp the fact that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not for me. I swear that this will never happen again.”

Fortunately, Janice was not only “book smart” but she also possessed common sense. Stated more explicitly, she instantaneously knew that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would never make the same error again. As a matter of fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in “binge drinking” and that even one instance of this form of hazardous drinking can end in a loss of life.
